Want to vote in Idaho’s primary election? Your party affiliation matters.

1–2 minutes

Idaho has a closed Republican primary election.

That means if you’re not affiliated as a Republican, you can’t vote on the Republican ballot, and you won’t have a say in which Republican candidates move on to the general election.

If you’re currently unaffiliated (or want to switch parties), you’ll need to update your voter registration on or before Election Day: May 19.

How to change or update your voter affiliation:
1. Visit voteidaho.gov
2. Update your voter registration
3. Select the the Republican party so you can vote in the upcoming primary election

Important:
You can also choose or change your party affiliation at the polls on Election Day—but doing it ahead of time can save you time and avoid delays.
